Nida Fazli

Nida Fazli

Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya
Bekhudi Kya Cheez Hai
Ishq Ki Jiye Phir Samajhiye
Zindagi Kya Cheez Hai

The song from ‘Sarfarosh’ would stir the mind and soul of any listener. The vigor and strength of the words would fascinate anyone listening to it. Such is the efficacy of Nida Fazli’s pen. A poet of varied dynamism, Nida Fazli received the Padmashree from the Government of India this year in 2013.

Hum Labon Se Keh Na Paaye, Unse Haal-E-Dil Kabhi
Aur Woh Samjhe Nahin Ye Khamoshi Kya Cheez Hai
Ishq Ki Jiye Phir Samajhiye, Zindagi Kya Cheez Hai

Born in a lower middle class family, Nida Fazli, realised his inner trait of writing while passing by a Hindu temple where a composition of a bhajan was being hymned. The beauty of the song depicting the separation between Radha and Krishna, inspired him to write. Originally belonging to Kashmir, born in Delhi and being raised in Gwalior, Nida Fazli denied to accompany his family when they decided to migrate to Pakistan after partition and stayed back in India.

Nida Fazli, an aspiring poet, after his appearance in Mumbai, started writing for Dharmyug and Blitz. His career took an about turn when film maker Kamal Amrohi noticed his talent while searching for an accomplished Urdu poet. His movie ‘Razia Sultan’ was already in the making when lyrics writer Jan Nisar Akhtar passed away. Nida Fazli took over the work to pen down the Akhtar’s incomplete work.

Tera Hijr Mera Naseeb Hai
Tera Gham Hi Mera Hayaat Hai
Mujhe Teri Doori Ka Gham Ho Kyun
Tu Kahin Bhi Ho Mere Saath Hai

Composed by Khayyam and sung by Kabban Mirza for ‘Razia Sultan’ in 1983, this was one of the first lyrics penned by Nida Fazli. From the very initial attempt only he was able to draw eminent film makers towards his impressive poetry.

Tu Is Tarah Se Meri Zindagi Mein Shaamil Hai
Jahan Bhi Jaaun Ye Lagta Hai Teri Mehfil Hai
Ye Aasmaan Ye Baadal Ye Raaste Ye Hawa
Har Ek Cheez Hai Apni Jagah Thikane Se
Kayi Dino Se Shikayat Nahi Zamane Se
Ye Zindagi Hai Safar Tu Safar Ki Manzil Hai
Jahan Bhi Jaaun Ye Lagta Hai Teri Mehfil Hai

‘Aap To Aise Na The’, a movie that is still embedded in the minds of people because of this song. The song with the same lyrics had three versions by Hemlata, Manhar Udhas and Mohammad Rafi. It was one of the chartbuster songs of 1980s. Nida Fazli once again proved his dynamism through his simple yet versatile wording of the song.

Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahaan Nahin Milta
Kahin Zameen To Kahin Aasmaan Nahin Milta
Jise Bhi Dekhiye Woh Apne Aap Mein Ghum Hai
Zubaan Mili Hai Magar Humzubaan Nahin Milta
Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahaan Nahin Milta

Composed by Khayyam again for the movie ‘Ahista-Ahista’, this is one of the most famous and remembered songs penned by Nida Fazli. ‘Kabhi Kisiko Mukammal Jahaan Nahin Milta’ has become a phrase that travels from mouth to mouth and its appeal can’t be measured in any possible terms.

Jaise Chaand Ke Sang Chaandni
Jaise Raag Ke Sang Hai Ragini
Jaise Bhari Basant Mein Morani
Piya Ke Rang Rang Deeni Odhani

Nida Fazli shows his unbound talent with these lyrics.

Khud Se Jo Vada Kiya Tha, Woh Nibhaya Na Gaya
Hum Ne Chaha Tha Bahut, Tumko Bhulaya Na Gaya
Khud Se Jo Wada Kiya Tha, Woh Nibhaya Na Gaya
