Arijit Singh is the new shining star in playback singing. With the release of 'Tum Hi Ho' from 'Aashiqui 2', he swooned over the chartbusters making it the most popular romantic track of the year.
Arijit Singh is born to a Punjabi father and a Bengali mother. His father is a LIC agent and his mother is a homemaker. His maternal uncle is a tabla player whereas his maternal aunt is a classical singer. Arjit rose to fame with the singing reality show on Sony Entertainment Television, 'Fame Gurukul' in 2005.
Arijit could not make it to the finals of Fame Gurukul, but he was later signed up by TIPS into an Artist Management Agreement where he was promised of five albums in five years. Until 2007, he was paid every month by TIPS, however, the albums didn't take off. Young Arijit, went to the TIPS head, Kumar Taurani, and requested him to stop his payments as he didn't want to receive money without working.
He was given his first break by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, when they offered him to sing the song 'All for One' for 'High School Musical'. Later, he went on to become an assistant to Pritam.
He also sang several title tracks and theme songs for hit television shows. The popular track 'Hum Hai Deewane' from the cult television series 'Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon' is rendered by Arijit Singh. He also sang the title track of the Bengali serial 'Tomaye Amaaye Miley'.
Arijit so far has worked with almost every big production house and filmmaker including Mahesh Bhatt, Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar. He now aspires to work with Salman Khan and Vishal Bharadwaj.
Arijit Singh also could be seen on screen in two hit Bengali songs from 'Proloy' and 'Bojhena Shey Bojhena'. He also composed the title track of Saurav Ganguly's Bengali quiz show 'Dadagiri'. Arijit Singh is an established singer in the Bengali film industry and he also sang a number of hit tracks in Telugu for the movies 'Kedi' and 'Swamy Ra Ra'.
