Asha Parekh was born on 2nd October 1942 in Bangalore (Karnataka). Her father was from Hindu cast and Mother was Muslim. She was a single child of her parents. Her mother admitted her into dance class when Asha was very small. Due to that she became expert in the dance. She then started to perform on stage and in functions. She started her career in Bollywood as a child artist from the film "Aasmaan" which was released in the year 1952. Bimal Roy, who was famous film director, saw her at the time of her stage performance and signed for the film "Baap Beti" in 1954 when she was only 12 years old.

When she was 16 years, she decided to perform as a heroine in the films but Vijay Bhatt rejected her for his film "Gunj Uthi Shehnai" gave role to the actress Ameeta. Vijay Bhatt said that she was not perfect as a heroine. But Subodh Mukherjee and Nasir Hussain gave her chance as a heroine in the film "Dil Deke Dekho" opposite with actor Shammi Kapoor. After the success of this film Nasir Hussain cast her for six more films which were "Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai"in released in 1961, "Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon" in 1963, "Teesri Manzil" in 1966, "Baharon Ke Sapne" in 1967, "Pyar Ka Mausam" in 1969 and the film "Caravan" in the year 1971.

Previously her image in the Bollywood as trained dancer and glamorous girl. But after Raj Ghosala, director giving chance to her in his films and her serious image was come in front of people. Some of her films where she performed serious roles were "Do Badan" released in 1966, "Chirag" in 1969 and the film "Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki" in the year 1978. She also performed three films in her mother tongue from these she gave one hit film named "Akhand Saubhagyavati" released in the year 1963. Asha Parekh Filmography

In 1990, Asha become TV director of Gujarati Serials and direct the serial "Jyoti". She then formed production company named "Akruti" and produced many serials some of them were Baaje Payal, Palash ke Phool, Kora Kagaz and comedy serial Dal Mein Kaala. Asha was president of Association of Cine Artistes and chairperson of Censor Board. She was the first lady who becomes chairperson of Censor board.

Asha stopped her career in acting in the1995 and moved towards producing and directing TV serials. She owns many Filmfare and many other Awards. She remained unmarried but she romantically involved with the Bollywood director Nasir Hussain. Now days she concentrated on Kara Bhavan, her dance academy and her dance academy creates many dancers. There is also one hospital in Santa Cruz, Mumbai named Asha Parekh Hospital.
