Born as Supriyo Baral, Babul Supriyo came to fame with his songs like 'Aati Hai To Chal' from 'Saat Rang Ke Sapne', 'Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara' from 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' and 'Sochta Hun Uska Dil Kabhi' from 'Sochta Huun'.

Babul born in a musical family in Kolkata. His father Rai Chand Baral was a famous composer. Also his grand father Banikantha NC Baral was a famous Bengali vocalist. Babul learnt music from his father and grandpa.

Before shifting into singing, Supriyo was doing a job at Standard Chartered Bank. But he left the job to pursue career in singing. He moved to Mumbai in 1992. He was struggling for a big break. For some time he kept himself busy singing cover versions of Kishore Kumar's songs. Later the music directors Kalyanji-Anandji gave him break and carried him along with them for foreign concerts in US and Canada.

Babul gets his first break in Rishi Kapoor's film Prem Rog in 1994. He sung the song 'Zindagi Chaar Din Ki' in the film. Music for the film was given by Bappi Lahiri. Then after he sang for many other films like Ekka Raja Rani, Kranti Kshetra (1994), Dadagiri, Gaddaar (1995), Jung, Agni Sakshi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and many more.

His hit songs includes 'Aaj Meri Zindagi Mein' (Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi), 'Hata Sawan Ki Ghata' (Hello Brother), 'Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara' (Kaho Na Pyaar Hai), 'Ta Ra Ram Pam Pum' (Doli Sajake Rakhna), Hum Tum (Hum Tum), 'Pari Pari Hai Ik Pari' (Hungama), 'Dil Ka Rishta' (Dil Ka Rishta), 'Jeena Sirf Mere Liye' (Jeena Sirf Merre Liye), and 'Chanda Chamke Cham Cham' (Fanaa).

Babul Supriyo entered into the world of pop music with his album 'Sochta Hoon'. The album was a success with its humming title track. After this album it is seemed that Babul Supriyo in arrived again. His other non film albums includes 'Kuchh Aisa Lagtaa Hai', 'Safar' and 'Khoya Khoya Chand'. For the album Kuchh Aisa Lagtaa Hai, Babul lost 24 kgs to appear in the video. In this album he appeared along with former Miss India, Niharika. The video was shot in Greece.

Babul Supriyo next plans to host a TV music show. Acting is also running on his mind. Supriyo agreed to do director Tarun Majumdar's next film. He will play a lead role opposite Rituparna Sen Gupta. The film is titled 'Chandrer Bari', which is a Bangali film. Shooting for the film will start on 22 April 2007. Most of the shooting will done in Kolkata.

Marriage Life
When Babul was performing at concert, he met Riaa in Toronto. The couple gets married in July 1995. But they get separated in 2006. However they are not divorced officially. They together hav a daughter named Sharmilee.
