Lalita Rani commonly known as Jaya Prada was born on 3rd April 1962 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and was bon in middle-class family. Father of Jaya Prada was film financer of Tollywood. Her mother admitted her into dance classes when she was very small. When she was fourteen, she gave her first stage performance in school. At the time of that performance, a Telugu film director was in audience and offered her for short performance in film "Bhoomi Kosam". In this film she performed only for 3 minutes. She firstly refused that offer but her family encouraged her and she accepts that offer. After this three minute role, many directors gave her offers for leading roles and she accepted the offers.
She became star after the year 1976. She got role in "Anthuleni Katha" directed by K. Balachandra in 1976 and she became popular. Her other films also becomes hit like "Siri Siri Muvva" directed by K. Viswanath and played role of mute dancer. In film "Seetha Kalyanam" she played title role and proved her versatility. The film "Adavi Ramudu" released in 1977 which breaks all the records and she became one from leading stars.
She did first Bollywood film named as "Saegam" released in 1979. This film was remade of the Telugu film "Siri Siri Muvva" and directed by K. Viswanath. In this film she performed with Rishi Kapoor. From this film she became Bollywood star. When she performed this movie she didn't know Hindi. After three years, in 1982 she did the film "Kamchori" and she spoke Hindi very easily. After that she performed many Hindi films and got two nominations for Filmfare Award for the Best Actress. Her two films were super duper hit which were "Sharabi" released in 1984 and directed by Prakash Mehara and "Sanjog" in 1985 and directed by Satyajit Ray.
She performed many films with Jeetendra and Amitabh Bachchan and they also popular pairs. She not only performed with Jeetendra and Bachchan but made dozens of films with the actress Sridevi also. In "Devata" in 1982, "Tohfaa" released in 1984 and many more films she performed with Sridevi.
Jaya got married with Srikanth Nahata in the year 1986 who was a film producer. When she married with him, he was not divorced with his first wife Chandra. Srikanth has three children from first wife. Srikanth's first wife and Jaya Prada both were unable to live without him and both were decided to share him. She also performed in Marathi language film "Aadhaar" released in 2002 and thus performed in 7 languages.
She then went to politics and joined Telugu Desam party. She was nominated for MP in the Rajyasabha but because of some differences with N. Chandrababu Naidu, she joined Samajwadi Party.
