Karishma Kapoor was born on 25th June 1974 in Mumbai. She is first daughter of famous actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita. She has a younger sister Kareena Kapoor who is also an actress. Her grandfather, Raj Kapoor was also great actor and director.
Karishma did her first movie named as "Prem Quidi" released in 1991. Up to the 1996, most of her films were flopped on box office. During 1991- 1996 some of her hit films were Jigar released in 1992, Anaari in1993, Raja Baabu in 1994, Coolie No. 1 1995, Saajan Chale Sasural in 1996) and the film Jeet which released in 1996. In the year 1996 Karishma played the film "Raja Hindustani" directed by Dharmesh Darshan. This film was biggest hit film of that year. In this film she performed opposite to Amir Khan. For this film she won first Filmfare Award for the Best Actress. Film "Dil To Pagal Hai" released in 1997 was super hit on box office and performed opposite Madhuri Dixit and Shahrukh Khan.
She performed many films. Her films in which she performed comedy roles are "Biwi No.1" directed by Devid Dhawan and performed with Salaman Khan. Film was released in 1997 and super hit on box office. Another comedy film of her was "Haseena Maaan Jaayegi" with Govinda did quite well on box office. This film also directed by Devid Dhawan.
Karishma first time performed under the banner of Rajshri Production in the multi-starred film named as "Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United". In this she performed opposite to Saif Ali Khan and co-stars such as Mohanish Behel, Salaman Khan, Tabbu and Sonali Bendre. Her next film "Jaanwar" with the actor Akshay Kumar was also much hit on box office.
For the film "Fiza" released in 2000 and directed by Khalid Mohammed, she got second Filmfare Award for the Best Actress .Her role in film "Zubeida" released in 2001 becomes famous and got Filmafare Critics Award for that. She also played in TV serial named as "Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny" in 2003. Karishma's recent released film was "Mere Jeevan Saathi" released in 2006. In this film she performed villainous role.
She romantically involved with the actors Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgan. In 2002, she engaged with Abhishek but because of some crises both of them separated and she got married with Sanjay Kapur who is industrialist in 29 September 2003. Sanjay firstly married with Nandita Mahtani who is designer. Karishma and Sanjay have one daughter, Samaira, who born on March 11, 2005.
