Preity Zinta was born on 31st January 1975 in the Shimla (Himachal Pradesh). Her father named Durganand Zinta was Indian Army Officer but he was died in car accident when Preity was only 14 years old. She has one younger and one older brother named as Deepankar and Manish. Deepanker is officer (Commissioned) in Indian Army and another brother Manish is now established in Los Angeles. She completed her school from Shimla in Jesus and Mary Boarding School. From the school she was interested in sports and mostly she interested in Basketball. She completed degree in criminal psychology. But then she moved towards modeling.
Preity met to Shekhar Kapur who is film maker. After audition, Shekhar wanted to gave her break into "Tara Rum Pum Pum" but she got first chance in the film "Dil Se" directed by Mani Ratnam. In this film she performed with Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala. She then got another film "Kya Kehana" with Saif Ali Khan and directed by Kundan Shah and "Soldier" with Bobby Deol. She was firstly nominated for Filmfare Award but own the first Filmfare Award for the films Dil Se and Solider. She also acted in Telugu films such as "Premante Idera" released in 1998 with Venkatesh, and the film "Raja Kumarudu" released in 1999 and performed with Mahesh Babu.
She then performed in "Mision Kashmir" directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and performed with actors Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt. Film was not so hit but she becomes star. She performed in the films "Dil Chahata Hai" released in 2001. This film got National Film Award and co-starring Saif Ali Khan, Amir Khan and Akshaye Khanna. In this film she performed opposite to Amir Khan.
For the film "Chori Chori Chupke Chupke", she was nominated for Filmfare Award for the best supporting actress. Film was based on surrogate childbirth. Film was directed by Abbas Mustan but delay for releasing because of producer Bharat Shah. Preity also got nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress.
Preity again worked together with Kundan Shah in the film "Dil Hai Tumhara" with the actresses Rekha, Mahima Chaudhary and the actor Arjun Rampal.
This film was not hit on the box office but role in this film about adopted daughter was much hit. In the year 2003, she gives three hit films "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" with the co-stars Sunny Deol, Priyanka Chopra, "Koi.Mil Gaya with Rekha, Hritik Roshan" and the film "Kal Ho Na Ho with Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta". In the film "Armaan", she played negative role with the co-stars Anil Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Grecy Singh.
Preity is also a stage performer. She performed several stage performances in the world. Craze 2001 was her first stage performance with Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Gracy Singh and Aishwarya Rai. Her second stage performance was in 2002 in UK with Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Amir Khan and Shahrukh Khan and many more.
