Priyanka was born on 18th July 1982. She completed her school from United States and school names were Newton North High School and North Delta Senior Secondary School. She then admitted into the college in Mumbai named as Jai Hind College. She is a first child of her parents. Her father, Ashok Chopra is doctor and was in Army and mother, Madhu Akhauri is also a doctor. Her mother is Bihari and father is Punjabi. She has younger brother named Siddharth. Her family normally moved because her father was Army Man.

In the year 2000, Priyanka own "Miss India" and then "Miss World" titles. On the same year Lara Dutta and Diya Mirza were also in the beauty competition. Lara Dutta owns "Miss Universe" crown and Diya Mirza own "Miss Asia Pacific" crown. Priyanka was fifth Indian who won the tile "Miss World".

Priyanka then wanted to become an actress after winning "Miss World" title. She firstly acted in the film "Thamizhan" released in 2002 which was in Tamil language film. For this film she sung one song. In 2003, she moved towards Bollywood and performed her first film in Bollywood named as "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" released in 2003 and co-stars were Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. She then appeared in next film "Andaaz" with the actor Akshay Kumar and actress Lara Dutta. For this film she got Filmfare Award for Best Debut and own nomination for Filmfare Award for Supporting Actress.

Some of her films were not hit on the box office. Her film "Mujhase Shaadi Karogi" released in 2004 becomes super hit and film was third rank film of the year. She not only performed positive roles. She performed first negative role in the "Aitraaz" which was remake of film "Demi Moore". She got Filmfare Award for Best Villain and nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress.
