Radhika Apte is an Indian actress who has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu and Malayalam movies. She has also been a stage performer and acted for Mohit Takalkar's theater troupe Aasakta.

Early life:

Radhika Apte was born in Pune. Her father, Dr. Charudutt Apte, is a famous neurosurgeon from Pune and the chairman of Sahyadri Hospital. Right from her childhood, Radhika was a bright student and had an excellent academic record. She graduated from Fergusson college, Pune with major in economics and maths. After four film releases, she moved to London to study contemporary dance under London's Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

In the year 2012, Radhika tied the knot with Bennedict Taylor, a UK based musician. The couple had met in London and were in a relationship for quite sometime. Finally Radhika broke the news to her family and after getting their consent the duo got married.

Radhika as aTheater Artist:

Radhika Apte has acted in dozens of movies in various languages; however, she started her acting career as a stage artist in her home town. She has been an integral part of various Marathi plays; such as, Tu, Purnaviram, Matra Ratra and many more. She has also acted in Samuel Beckett's That Time, that gained immense popularity. Her first commercial Hindi play was Kanyadaan. Her exceptional acting skills in the English play named Bombay Black, caught the attention of Indian actor Rahul Bose, who later recommended her for the Bengali movie Antaheen.

Short films:

Radhika Apte appeared in various short films; such as Darmiyaan and Vakratunda Swaha. In the year 2012, Radhika played one of the lead roles in Anurag Kashyap 's short film on eve teasing that was released on you tube.

2005 - Bollywood Debut:

Radhika Apte made her first Bollywood debut with Mahesh Manjrekar's movie Vaah! Life ho to aisi. Although she played a short role in the movie, the actress was able to create her frame in the industry. The film makers did not fail to notice this new face and appreciated her acting talent.

2006 - Bengali movie: Antaheen

Famous film director, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, cast her in his film - Antaheen along with celebrated actors such as Sharmila Tagore, Aparna Sen and Rahul Bose - who had recommended her for the role. She played a prominent role of Brinda Roy Menon, a TV journalist, in the movie. The movie had won the 2009 Best Film National Award and was also selected for the Shanghai film fest.

2009 - First Marathi Release:

"Gho Mala Asia Hava" by Sumitra Bhave And Sunil Sukhthankar was her first Marathi film release. She appeared as Savitri, a village girl. The movie was quite popular in the Marathi community. The second movie with the same pair was "Mor Dekhenge Jungle Mein." In the same year she was seen in Jatin Wagle's "Ek Marathi Manoos," Amol Palekar's Marathi film "Samaantar" and Akash Khurana's "Life Online."

The journey continues: 2010-2014

The actress played a significant role in Ram Gopal Varma's "Rakta Charitra" and its sequel in 2010; along with Maneej Premnath's thriller- The Waiting Room. The following year, she was seen in Ekta Kapoor's "Shor in the City" and "I Am. "

The year 2012 started with a marathi movie "Ha Bharat Majha"- a movie based on Anna Hazare's movement. Later, she acted in a Tamil/Telegu movie - Dhoni. She was nominated for Best actress in supporting role in SIIMA awards for this movie.

In 2014, the actress had five film releases - Postcard, Pendulum, Legend, Vetri Selvan and Lai Bhari in different languages. Legend and Lai Bhari were huge commercial hits with latter being the highest grossing Marathi film of the year.

2015 releases:

Radhika Apte impressed one and all with her role as Koko in Sriram Raghavan's recent film release Badlapur. The actress had revealed in one of her interviews, that she was given the opportunity to choose between the two female roles in the movie and it was her choice to play the bold role of Koko in the movie. According to her, she found the role toughest and hence decided to play the same.

The actress's recent film release is Anurag Kashyap's Hunterrr- an adult comedy movie. The movie features her in the lead role along with Gulshan Devaiah and two new actresses. The movie received a mixed review after the release.

Upcoming Projects:

The actress has been working on a Tamil movie Ula. She is also expected to start shooting for Rohit Batra's film - The Field and Leena Yadav's "Parched." The actress will be seen in Anurag Basu's TV series- Chokher Bali as the lead role of Binnodini which was played by Aishwarya Rai in the movie having the same title.


The actress hit the headlines after her nude pictures went viral on the internet. Reports reveal that she had posted a tweet denying the whole story, 4-5 days before the pictures were actually taking rounds on the internet. Some feel that the leak was just a publicity stunt for the promotion of her movie Badlapur.
