Ranjit Barot is an Indian lyricist, music director, music arranger and singer. He is a long time trusted associate of none other than the music maestro A.R. Rahman and has assisted him too. He has also arranged music for him on numerous occasions.
Ranjit Barot was born in a family steeped in Indian classic music. He was given training of Indian classical music at a very early age. As a child, he was fascinated by the charm of music and as a result used to listen to songs. He was also enticed by traditional Indian musical instruments like Tabla, Harmonium and Sitar. Since he had a family of music professionals, he was destined to become like them one day and he became one.
His mother, Sitara Devi is a very famous Kathak dancer.
At a young age he became the leading artist to muster the art of playing the organ, Drum Kit. The phase of his life saw him going to Europe and the west with leading Indian jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Al Foster, Billy Higgins, Cecil Taylor and Louie Bellson amongst others.
Ranjit has got his own state-of-the-art studio in Mumbai and had a long association with film music composition and production. He has been a prominent name for many music greats like RD Burman, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji and even Anu Malik from this era. He is still one of the most sought after music arranger for many music composers.
The highlight of his career has been being the integral part of A.R. Rahman group and as a result arranged music for his greatest work. His deep knowledge of music and musical instruments has helped Rahman's genre of music through a new high.
He also has the choicest distinction of performing with Maestro Zakir Hussain including a tour of US and Canada.
Ranjit Barot has recently released his ambitious album called 'Bada Boom' and it has been acclaimed world wide. The album was released in November, 2010 and featured some of the great musicians of this era.
He also has been the music arranger for the entire commonwealth games which was recently held in New Delhi.
