Raveena was born on 26th October 1974 in Mumbai. She completed her school from Jamnabai Narsee School in the Juhu and college from Mithibai College. When she was in college, she got many offers about films. So she completed first and second class of the college and started the acting in the film. Her father, Ravi Tandon was director and producer and mother is Veena Tandon. Raveena's name is combination of Ravi and Veena. She has one brother named Rajiv Tandon.

Her first film as an actress was "Patthar Ke Phool" released in 1991. The film was super hit and she own Filmfare Lux Award for New Face. Her next films "Mohra" released in 1994 and the film "Dilwale" in the same year becomes super hit and she became star. In film "Andaz Apana Apana" she played comedy role. In this film she performed with Amir Khan, Salman Khan and Karishma Kapoor.

She performed "Zamaana Deewana" with the hit actor Shahrukh Khan. Film did not do well. But her next films "Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi" in 1996 and film "Ziddi" in 1997 being super hit films of that year. Raveena performed many comedy films such as "Bade Miyan Chote Miyan" in 1998 with Govinda, "Gharwali Baharwali" with Anil Kapoor, "Pardesi Babu and Aunty No.1" with actor Govinda. Paveena then moved towards art films and performed films such as "Shool" released in 1999, "Bulandi" in 2000 and the film "Aks" released in 2001. She got National Film Award for the film "Daman: A Victim of Material Violence" which was released in 2001. Her films "Satta" released in 2003 and the film "Dobara" in 2004 became failed on the box office but she became star. In film Satta, she played role of middle class family women entered into politics. Her role in film Dobara also very hit. Her latest released film was "Sandwich" released in 2006. She also produced two films named as "Stumped" in 2003 and "Pehchaan: The Face of Truth" in 2005.

Raveena adopted two children Pooja and Chhaya when she was unmarried. She engaged with the actor Akshay Kumar but broke up between them after some time. She then got married with Anil Thadani in 22 February 2004. Anil Thadani is film distributor. Both of them have one daughter, Rasha who born on 16 March 2005 and a boy on 12 July 2007.
