Ravindra Jain is a veteran Indian music director who writes lyrics as well. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director in 1985.

Early Life

Ravindra Jain was born in Banswara, Rajasthan, India on 28th February, 1944. Just like any music genius, he had a liking for music since his childhood days. He used to listen to songs of 1950s and earlier to know the basics of music compositions and penning of lyrics. After completing his formal education he went to Kolkata and from there shifted to Mumbai to pursue a musical career. He started writing lyrics and composing music for films and serials.

He took his basic music training from Pt. G.L.Jain, Pt. Janardhan Sharma and Pt. Nathu Ram.

Career

Ravindra Jain was one of the major forces of Indian music industry in 1970s and 1980s for hit films like Chor Machaye Shor (1974), Geet Gaata Chal (1975), Chitchor (1976) and Akhiyon Ke Jharokon Se (1978). Along with composing music for many films he also wrote lyrics for many of his famous songs too.

He was very much dedicated to his work as he thought that work was worship. He showed an example of that as his father died when the recording session of the film Saudagar was going on but Jain did not leave the studio and completed all his work related responsibilities as he gave utmost importance to work.

Association with Yesudas

Ravindra Jain is also considered the force to bring the south singing sensation Dr. K.J. Yesudas to the Bollywood music industry in singing many of his movies in 1970s and late 1980s. Jain collaborated with him later to churn out memorable numbers. After his association with Yesudas was over, Ravindra Jain could not achieve the zenith of his career once gain in life that he surged being with his guru Yesudas.

Television Career

Ravindra Jain also made jingles for advertisements. Later he started making music for many serials mainly made under the banner of Saagar Films Pvt Ltd throughout 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. He continued his association with Saagar Films Pvt Ltd with some serials like Alif Laila, Shri Krishna, Itihaas Ki Prem Kahaniyan, Jai Ganga Maiya, Jai Mahalakshmi, Shree Brahma Vishnu Mahesh, Sai Baba and Jai Maa Durga.

His collection of Shahyris called Ujaalon Ka Silsila also earned him an award from Sahitya Award from Uttar Pradesh Hindi-Urdu Sahitya Committee. Ravindra Jain also featured as Mahaguru in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 and today devotes most of his time to social activities like kavi sammelans, mushairas and live concerts.

His most recent album was for film Vivaah, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao which had some super hit music and lyrics. The success of the movie was also attributed to the soulful music.
