Sai Tamhankar is an Indian film actress mostly known for her movies in the Marathi film industry. She became popular in the Hindi film industry with her movie Gajhni(2008). Her recent Hindi film release is Hunterrr.

Early Life: Sai Tamhankar was born in Sangli and after completing her schooling from there; she started her acting career with street plays and inter college drama competitions, while she was graduating from Chintaman College of commerce, Sangli. Sai received the Best Actress award for her play " Aadhe Adhure." It was this award, that encouraged her to take up acting as a career. She then moved to Mumbai to start her career in films.

First Break: Although Sai was trying to get into the film industry during her early days in Mumbai; her first break came via Marathi serial " Ya Gojirvanya Gharat."

It was during the award ceremony of her play that she was offered a major role in this serial. She accepted the role gladly and was later appreciated for her performance. Thereafter, she was seen in various popular Marathi serials, such as; " Agni Shikha," "Sathi Re." etc. She has also acted in a Hindi serial " Kasturi" under Balaji Productions banner.

Film Debut: In the year 2008, Sai got her first Bollywood break, when she was offered the role of 'Nimmo' in Subhash Ghai's movie "Black and White." In the same year, she also had the opportunity of working in another big banner movie "Gajhni" starring Aamir Khan. Her roles in both these movies were small and did not receive much attention. Sai then got an offer of working in Shreyas Talpade's Marathi film " Sanai Choughade." The film was a light hearted family entertainer that became quite popular amongst Marathi film lovers. Unlike Bollywood, Sai was now able to draw the attention of many film makers in the Marathi film industry. This film introduced her to the industry in true sense.

Bold, yet elegant - Sai Tamhankar:

Sai Tamhankar has worked for 18 Marathi films till date. After playing the lead role of "Saee" in her film "Sanai Chaugade," she did get various offers for different Marathi films. However, unfortunately, she was not being able to reach the heights of popularity despite her good performances in movies, such as; Haay kaay...Naay kaay", "Mission Possible", "Zakkas" etc.

In the year 2012, Sai reached all new heights of fame with her 'Bold Avatar' in the movie, "No entry Pudhe dhoka aahe" - a Marathi remake of Boney Kapoor's Hindi movie " No Entry." This remake was not that successful as compared to the original; however, the producers were able to bring the glam factor into the movie with Sai's bold bikini attire. This was a rare thing to happen in the Marathi film industry and was therefore the USP of the movie. Keeping all comparisons apart, the movie was quite successful .

In the same year, Sai was casted in the movie " Pune 52" to play the role of seductress ' Neha.' The movie was moderately successful; however, it did project Sai as one of those rare bold actresses in this industry.

After the release of both these movies, Sai received mixed reaction for her new image. Some congratulated her, for this remarkable guts as per the Marathi film Industry standards; while some criticized her for the same. In response to all negative criticism she was facing, Sai once told in an interview that she did not have any do's and don'ts as an actress. If a character demands something, she will do that; irrespective of her being comfortable in sari or bikini.

Duniyadari - Blockbuster hit of all times

Fighting all odds of negative criticism, Sai went forward to play another similar role, named " Shirin," in the movie "Duniyadari," released in the year 2013. The movie was a huge commercial success and is also considered as a milestone in the Marathi film industry. The movie, as well as Sai received highly positive reviews after the release. Her character in the movie is still popular among young film lovers. Many critics described her as one of the most diverse contemporary actress of this generation after the release of the movie.

The movie was scheduled to be released alongside Rohit Shetty's movie "Chennai Express." That was a great threat to the movie; as most of the single screen cinema halls in Maharashtra were about to drop the home production movie at the cost of the big budget Bollywood movie. Despite of these obstructions, the movie made a record of 710 shows daily and more than 5000 shows weekly across 270 theaters. The Marathi community gave the entire credit to the excellent star cast that glued them to the movie.

Just after the grand success of "Duniyadari," the actress was seen in the movie " Sau Shashi Deodhar"- 2014 release that portrayed her as a very homely woman, unlike the roles in her previous movies. This film also brought her enough acclamation. This was followed by another movie " Postcard" in which she appeared in a very unglamorous role. This movie also fetched her recognition as an actress. Thus, she had grown from just being a "glam doll" in the industry to a versatile actress who had no inhibitions in justifying her character in the movie.

Hunterrr - Sai Tamhankar made her first Bollywood debut in a leading role in the movie Hunterrr with co-stars Gulshan Devaiah and Radhika Apte. She played the role of "Jyotsna Bhabhi"- a housewife who gets attracted to a sex addict played by Gulshan Devaiah. Her role received appreciation and many critics found her to be at her best in the movie.

Sai was seen less during the promotion of this movie as she was busy in shooting for some of her upcoming movies. However reports say that she was having some issues with her co star Radhika Apte during the shoot. Although, both of them laughed off this rumor.
