Sharmila Tagore was born on 8th December 1946 in the Kanpur (which is in Uttar Pradesh). Her father is Gitindranath Tagore who is relative of Rabindranath Tagore. She got married with Nawab of Pataudi named Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. After marriage she converted to Islam cast and her name was also changed as "Begum Ayesha Sultana". Both of them have 3 children from that Saif Ali Khan was born on 1970, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan in the year 1978.
Sharmila started her career in the film industry with the film "Apur Sansar" in year 1959. Film was directed by Satyajit Ray and he gave first chance to Sharmila Tagore. She appeared in many films which were directed by Satyajit Ray and she mostly performed with actor Soumitra Chatterjee.
She played role in film "Kashmir Ki Kali" in 1964. Her co-star was Shammi Kapoor and film was directed by Shakti Samanta. After this film she became star of the Bollywood. She again performed with director Shakti Samanta in the films such as "An Evening In Paris" released in 1967 with co-star Shammi Kapoor, "Aradhana" in 1969 with actor Rajesh Khanna, Amar Prem released in 1971 and many more. She also stared with the film "Safar" in 1970, "Daag" in 1973 and film directed by Gulzar was "Mausam" in 1975.
After a long break her comeback in the film industry with the film "Mann". Her latest released film is "Eklavya: The Royal Guard" directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. In this film she played role of mother of her real son, Saif Ali Khan.
