Urmila Matondkar was born on 4th February 1973 in Mumbai. As a child artist she started the career. Her hit film was "Masoom" directed by Shekhar Kapoor and film was released in 1983. As an actress her first Hindi film was "Bade Ghar Ki Beti" but she was in focus from the film "Chamatkar" performed with Shahrukh Khan.
She normally team up with Ram Gopal Varma, who is a film director. Her first film with Ram Gopal Varma was "Antham" which was in Telugu. Urmila gives many hit films which was directed by Ram Gopal Varma such as Telugu film "Gaayam","Rangeela" released in 1995, "Daud" in 1997, "Satya" in 1999, "Kaun" in 1999, "Mast" and "Jungle" in 2000, "Pyar Tune Kya Kiya" in 2001, "Bhoot" 2003 and the film "Ek Hasina Thi" which was released in 2004. For the film "Rangeela" she got first Filmfare Award.
In the year 1990, she gave two super hit named "Judaai" with the actor Anil Kapoor and Sridevi and second film was "Satya". For the film Judaai she got nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
She not only performed positive roles but performs negative role in film "Pyar Tune Kya Kiya" in 2001 and got nomination for Best Villain for the performance. She played different roles in the films such as role of north Indian in the film "Pinjar" and film based on 1947 partion of India, leading role with Shabana Azmi in film "Tehzeeb" directed by Khalid Mohammed and role of ghost possessed lady in the horror film "Bhoot". All these films were released on 2003. She won Filmfare Award and many more awards for the film Bhoot.
In the year 2005, she played again horror film named "Naina" not the film was flopped on the box office. Her role in the film "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara" was very remarkable but she got 2nd Bollywood Award for this film. This film was directed by Jahnu Barua and performed with Anupam Kher. After performing this film she was known as versatile actress.
With the acting she is known for great dancer and performs item songs in the films. Her most famous item songs were Chamma Chamma in the film "China Gate", song from film "Company", Aaiye Aajaye from film "Lajja" and latest song Mehbooba from the film "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag" released in 2007. For the album "Asha and Friends Vol 1", she sang duet song with the singer Asha Bhosale.
